Fight the Good Fight of Faith
A while ago, during a phone conversation with one of my cousins who lives in Georgia, she told me about a conversation she had with my mom concerning me.
The conversation went somewhat like this… my cousin speaking to Mom, “Aunt Nunnie, Jean (that’s my middle name) show do look good for her age”. Mom responding”, “You know she is not going down without a fight!”. When my cousin repeated this conversation to me, something inside of me changed. I was inspired because it’s refreshing to hear how others perceive you, especially someone like my Mom, who was a “General of life.” She earned this title by gathering 86 years of wisdom and fighting the good fight of faith, for herself and her family.
It’s now clearer to me that we must fight for what is important and significant to us during this journey called life. I shared the above life experience not to bring glory to myself, but to inspire and spur us on to continue to fight for our lives and the lives of our loved ones.
You may have heard the comment, “Anything worth having in life is worth fighting for.” Before proceeding, I will define “fighting.” The “fighting” I am referring to is not malicious or harmful. I am not talking about pulling out weapons or using harsh words. I am talking about having a “bulldog tenacity” to fight for those people and things that are important to our life and well-being.
Here are some steps for fighting the good fight for your life:
- Fight for Good Health. There’s a multitude of information on how to be healthy and fit, and it can be overwhelming. I offer these simple recommendations:
- Focus on the total you: spirit, mind, and body. Optimum health is achieved with a balanced approach. Feed your spirit with the Word of God.
- Feed your mind with good thoughts; avoid negative thoughts and negative people.
- Fuel your body with good natural food and participate in some form of frequent exercise.
- Avoid negative thoughts. The biggest battle we fight is between our ears. Many have lost the battle of a healthy, vibrant life by thinking negative and impure thoughts. The Bible states: “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” We must train our brain to think good thoughts. A scripture reference for good thoughts: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent and praiseworthy, think about such things.”
- Fight for Your Loved Ones. As a wife, mother, and grandmother, I recognize that I must be able and willing to fight for my family. I pray for my loved ones and continually fight the good fight of faith. I am ready to go to battle for them and with them when the need arises. Many times, it’s about letting our loved ones know that we love them and that they are not alone in their battle. A favorite biblical quote is, “One can put a thousand to flight; two can put ten thousand to flight.”
- Fight for Your Freedom. Only you can fight for the life you imagine for yourself. Do not let anyone or anything hold you back or put you in a box. Your freedom is the most basic right you have, and refusing to fight for it is like dying before your heart stops beating! Never give up your right to freedom, which is your right to be the Best You!
In this age of social media overload, there is a push to rob people of their authenticity. Online, you can change your appearance to resemble a persona quite different from the real you on the outside. While this can be a fun and intriguing way to use these image-altering apps, and that’s okay, the point I want to make is that we must maintain or regain our true identity. Let’s not be defined by social media, politics, or popular culture. Fight for your true identity in Christ! The Bible says, “We are beautifully and wonderfully made.” You are an original, not a cheap copy!
- Fight the Good Fight of Faith.
- Today, there’s much turmoil happening in our world and within our personal lives. It’s easy to become weary of what’s going on around us. Many of you may feel like giving up! But here’s the good news: “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
- “But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
- Connect with people who can encourage and build you up, and you can reciprocate for them. A good place to connect is a Bible-believing church. “Who the Son (Jesus) sets free is free indeed!”
