Take Care of Yourself Part I of II In todays, fast paced, hustle, bustle society; we have become programmed to moving at break-neck speed in order to accomplish life goals and to complete that never ending daily to-do-list. Now, I am not saying that goal setting and the to-do-list are not important, but they both need to include sufficient time for you to take care of you. Recently, I reflected on why I embarked on this journey of wellness and wholeness; and simply it was to gain knowledge on how I could better take better care of myself. My wellness journey evolved into a passion to impart knowledge to others on how to take care of themselves.
I have witnessed many people giving too much of their time and energy to jobs/careers, their families, their political or social causes, their ministries, their businesses and lastly but not least; to technology, more specifically social media. The truth is, we cannot help or support anyone unless we are strong spiritually, physically and mentally. I would like to say it this way, “you cannot give what you do not have”. In my humble opinion, the greatest calling in life is to help and serve others. I believe that’s why we were created, to be the hands, feet and voice of God. A couple of my favorite Bible scriptures related to serving others: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago”. “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all of your soul, and love your neighbor as yourself”. Note: Love your neighbor as yourself. (Neighbor includes people close or distant to you), You must first love yourself before you can love others and care for others.
Remind yourself that you are fabulous. You are beautifully and wonderfully made. You are not a mistake! Don’t allow an unrealistic pursuit to be perfect discourage and exasperate you. Perfection should never be your goal. Focus on being the best you. We are all fallible, allow yourself to make mistakes and fall down sometimes, but quickly get back up. You are unique, do not compare yourself to others. Comparing yourself to others is a robber of your self-esteem. If possible, avoid people who put you down because you are doing you. Each morning when you arise do so with a heart of gratitude. Celebrate the amazing person you are!
